Closing on a home in Albany leaves a paper trail at the Albany County Clerk. New deeds and mortgages are recorded at the County Court House, Room 128, 16 Eagle Street, in downtown Albany. Your closing attorney or title company usually handles the filing, but this is the office to know when you want to confirm the record later.
The filing stack is more than the deed itself. As of 2026, recording a deed runs about $45 plus $5 per page, with small added charges for extra names or cross-references. New York also requires the RP-5217 real property transfer report and the TP-584 transfer tax affidavit. The RP-5217 fee depends on the property type, often $125 or $250, and the TP-584 costs a few dollars to file.
After closing, save the deed recording information with your closing papers. The Clerk’s office offers an online records search, and you can request a certified copy in person if you need one for a lender, estate file, or future sale.
