Wellsville Code and Tax Questions Depend on the Line

Wellsville residents should check whether a question belongs to town offices, village code enforcement, assessor, clerk, or tax collector before assuming one desk handles it.

Wellsville property questions do not all go to one desk. The assessor, clerk and tax collector, code office, and road crew each have their own town role.

Village code work has a different route. The Village of Wellsville uses M.A.C.E., short for the Municipal Alliance of Code Enforcement. Its Code and Building Inspection office is in Belfast.

County land records add a third layer. Allegany County Real Property is in Belmont. It handles land-transfer reports and other county property work.

Start with the address. Find out whether it is inside the Village of Wellsville or in another part of the Town of Wellsville. Then name the kind of help you need: an assessment, a tax payment, town code, village code, or a county land record.

Keep the parcel ID and any bill or notice with you when you call. More than one office may be part of the same case. That does not mean each office can explain the others’ work. Ask the tax desk about the bill, the code office about its notice, and Real Property about the county record. A clear address and parcel ID will help each desk find the right file.
