Wayne Tax Payments Need Parcel ID and Collector Timing

Wayne County tax payments depend on parcel ID, due dates, and which office holds the bill after March; ask the Treasurer for a live delinquent payoff.

Wayne County has a paperwork point that is easy to miss. The Pay Your Taxes page says the online payment system needs the parcel ID number, and payments have to be submitted by the due date to avoid late fees. Town and county taxes are payable to town collectors during January, February, and March; on April 1 they become payable to the Wayne County Treasurer.

Wayne County’s Taxpayers Guide currently gives two different penalty figures for the April handoff. One sentence says 25%; the next says 5% plus 1% interest for each delinquent month. Do not calculate a payoff from either sentence while that conflict remains. Ask the Treasurer for the amount due on the date you plan to pay.

Start with the parcel ID, collector, and payment date. Keep the bill, January-through-March collector information, April 1 county handoff, Treasurer’s written or quoted payoff, payment confirmation, and receipt together.
