Washington's Town Clerk Has Separate Tax and Records Roles

In Washington, the elected town clerk also serves as tax collector, licensing agent, records officer, and vital registrar. The same office can handle several kinds of work, but it does not accept every property-tax payment all year.

The collector schedule says local town and county tax payments stop on June 1. A notice dated July 21, 2026 directs unpaid 2026 property taxes to the Dutchess County Office of Real Property. That handoff is about delinquent tax payments; it does not move the clerk’s records, licenses, or vital-record work to the county tax office.

For a tax payment, bring the parcel number and bill year, then get the current payoff and receiving office. For a clerk record, bring the record type, names, and dates instead.
