Tuxedo’s Sterling Forest hunting rules need a fresh permit check

Sterling Forest makes Tuxedo feel outdoorsy, but hunting access is still a rule-bound activity. Town of Tuxedo’s DEC license materials say the clerk issues fishing, hunting, and trapping licenses through DEC and points to hunting guidance. At the same time, NYS Parks maintains the Sterling Forest State Park page.

The practical check is to confirm the hunting license, park permit, dates, unit, parking, and safety rules before scouting or carrying gear. Do not assume “state park” means open access for every outdoor use.
