Suffolk Red-Light Notices Need the TPVA Route

Suffolk County stopped issuing red-light camera notices for violations on or after December 1, 2024. It still processes notices for earlier violations. Start with the violation date, not the date the letter arrived.

For an older notice, the fine is $50. Missing the due date adds a $25 late fee. The violation adds no driver’s-license points and does not affect insurance rates. Liability follows the vehicle’s owner or registrant even when someone else was driving. A stolen vehicle or stolen plates can be raised through a not-guilty plea with proof.

Pay or request citation information through the phone number or cite-web route on the county page. Hearing instructions are printed on the Notice of Liability. If the fine remains unpaid after the second notice, collection and a DMV registration hold may follow.

The official instructions conflict on image access. The program overview says recorded images and video are unavailable on or after December 1, 2024, while an older FAQ still describes online viewing. Ask TPVA if the evidence matters to a hearing. Keep the notice, citation number, PIN, due date, payment receipt, or hearing request together.
