Stephentown keeps Berkshire-edge history in an active society calendar

Stephentown’s local history still has a calendar.

The Stephentown Historical Society runs the Heritage Center, while the town also names a historian and a curator. Monthly programs have reached into ice harvesting, maple sugaring, baseball in the Berkshires, and New York hops, which is a lively range for one small place.

That mix turns history into something people keep discussing rather than a plaque beside an old house. Farms, hills, Berkshire routes, food, sports, and working life all find their way into the public record.

Stephentown sits at the Rensselaer County edge, close enough to the Berkshires that the border belongs to the town’s identity. The Heritage Center and its programs keep that edge visible through ordinary subjects that local families would recognize.
