Root has the kind of small-town map where memory sits close to the road. The town office is on Carlisle Road in Sprakers. The Root Historical Society is also on Carlisle Road, a little farther along in Flat Creek. A genealogy link reaches back toward past residents and local events.

Slow down around Sprakers and Flat Creek, and a more human map shows up: the town clerk’s counter, a historical society address, Carlisle Road, old surnames, and neighbors who still know where to send a history question.
