Queens Sidewalk Work May Need a Tree Permit

A Queens sidewalk or driveway repair can become a tree issue fast. A Tree Work Permit is needed to work on or within 50 feet of a street tree. That can include sidewalk installation, driveway installation, utility work, pruning, holiday lights, or adding planting space. Contractors and other entities must follow its tree-protection protocol near street trees.
Before hiring a sidewalk crew, identify any city tree near the work area.
Ask who will file the Tree Work Permit. Keep the property address, tree location, work plan, contractor papers, permit application, and NYC Parks response together. Make sure the crew has the permit and tree-protection requirements before starting work within 50 feet of the tree.
