Oswego County gives residents one of those details that is easy to miss until it costs time. After March 31, town and county taxes are sent to the County Treasurer’s Office for collection. That handoff matters if you are checking an unpaid bill, buying property, or trying to understand why a local collector cannot take a payment anymore.
If the date is after March 31, move the payment question to the County Treasurer instead of continuing with the local collector. Open the Treasurer’s property-tax route with the tax year, municipality, parcel number, and unpaid bill. Ask for the current balance and payment instructions for that parcel.
Keep any partial-payment record with the Treasurer’s answer and final receipt. If the bill is for a different tax year or is not a town or county tax, identify that difference before choosing the receiving office.
