Orleans County Clerk is the land-recording route

Orleans deed, mortgage, and record-search questions should start with the County Clerk rather than a town office.

Published June 24, 2026 · Last verified June 28, 2026

Start an Orleans County land-record search with the County Clerk. The Clerk is the county’s recording officer, not a general property office.

The office files deeds, mortgages, leases, assignments, discharges, and maps. It also files business certificates, judgments, federal tax liens, military discharges, naturalization records, separation agreements, divorce orders, and other county records.

Before calling, gather the address, names on the record, record type, and rough filing date. Add the book or instrument number if you know it. Decide whether you need search help, a copy, or a filing visit. The online land records may help you find the record first.

Ask an assessor about an assessment and a tax office about payment status. Ask a lawyer or title company about legal effect. The Clerk cannot give legal advice.
