Ontario County property-record questions should start with the office that keeps the record. The Ontario County Clerk page covers clerk services. The Ontario County Records Management page explains the county’s records role and lists contacts.
Check there before paying a third-party site for a document. A buyer, heir, or owner may need an official copy or an index search instead. First gather the document type, parcel or party names, and approximate date. Then ask which search, copy, certification, or recording process applies.
Write down the index or instrument number when you find the record. Keep that number, the property address, and the source page with any copy request or receipt. If the clerk sends you to another office, note the office name and the record it handles.
Be clear about what you need from the record. A search, an ordinary copy, a certified copy, and a new recording are different errands. Ask about the fee, payment method, identification, mailing option, and expected return before submitting anything. If several people have similar names, use dates and property details to narrow the search. Read the finished copy while the request details are still handy.
