Popular campground weekends can disappear quickly, so use the reservation window as a planning tool. State Parks says camping reservations can be made up to nine months in advance. Sites become available at the nine-month window at set times, which vary by season and weekday or weekend. Campsites can be reserved on the day of arrival until 3 PM, while cabins, cottages, and yurts can be reserved up to one day before arrival.

Before promising a group trip, check the specific park’s season, pet rules, extra vehicle limits, and cancellation terms. Put the arrival date, lodging type, pet plan, and number of vehicles beside the reservation calendar. For flexible plans, look beyond peak weekends and keep several park options ready.

For a popular weekend, be ready when the nine-month window opens and use the time listed for that date. For a last-minute campsite, remember the arrival-day cutoff. A cabin, cottage, or yurt needs at least the day-before window described by State Parks. Those are different clocks, so choose the lodging type before counting backward and keep that choice with the arrival plan.
