Monroe School Taxes Have an Installment Trap
Monroe school-tax bills can use three installments, but unpaid balances can return on the next town and county bill.

A Monroe County school-tax bill can look manageable until the installment dates are missed. School tax bills are mailed by August 31 to the bank if there is a mortgage escrow account, or directly to the owner if there is not. Payment in full is due October 1. Owners may instead use three installments due September 15, October 15, and November 15.
If school taxes are not fully paid, the outstanding balance, plus penalty and interest, is re-levied as a county tax on the next combined town and county tax bill.
Keep the bill, installment coupons, escrow status, September 15, October 15, and November 15 due dates, and proof of each payment together. After a missed installment, get the outstanding balance, penalty, interest, and relevy status before sending money.
