Open the MTA discount and exemption route before counting on a lower toll. If a listed discount or exemption fits, follow its application steps and keep the required proof with the submission. If there is no approval or confirmation, do not treat the lower amount as part of the travel budget.

Compare any MTA confirmation with the tolls that post to the account. Save the application, proof, confirmation, account details, and toll records together. For work trips, also ask how the employer treats tolls, parking, and mileage, then use the posted toll record when planning the next month’s cost.
