Manhattan Corporation Nexus Can Start With NYC Receipts

NYC business corporation tax nexus is not limited to having a classic office or lease in the city.

Published June 23, 2026 · Last verified June 23, 2026

A Manhattan-facing corporation should not treat NYC business corporation tax as just an office question. The tax can apply when a corporation does business, uses capital, owns or leases property, or keeps an office in the city. New York City receipts can create economic nexus for tax years that begin on or after January 1, 2022. They may change each year.

Use the Finance rules when a remote or mostly outside-city corporation reviews whether it is inside the NYC business tax system. Keep the tax year, city receipts, property or office details, and any filing or account number ready for the business’s tax adviser.
