Erie Registration Work Can Stay Local

Erie drivers can use county Auto Bureau offices, reservations, and Renew Local instead of sending every registration task to Albany.

Erie County’s Clerk runs the county Auto Bureau. It handles DMV work such as vehicle registration, plate surrender, licenses, IDs, and reservations. Appointments are strongly encouraged but not required. Appointment customers get priority, and walk-ins may be accepted up to one hour before closing when space allows.

Common paperwork includes MV-82, proof of identity, ownership, and bill-of-sale details. Choose a branch, read the document list, and reserve a slot if the transaction has several pieces.

Keep the exact transaction, chosen branch, form, proof of identity, ownership record, bill of sale, and reservation confirmation together. For a plate surrender, license, ID, or registration question, use the Erie County Clerk Auto Bureau route before relying on an old office listing.
