Clinton DMV has a 3:30 door and earlier test cutoffs

Clinton County DMV is a clock-management errand. Weekday public hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but the doors lock at 3:30 p.m. so people already inside can be served. Enhanced and REAL ID scanning also stops at 3:30 p.m.

Permit tests close earlier than the office. Regular and motorcycle permit testers need to be seated by 3:00 p.m., and CDL permit testers by 2:00 p.m. The reason is practical: people need enough time to take the test before closing.

There is a helpful drop box outside the office door for some renewals, payments, plate surrenders, and other check-with-the-help-desk items. The county asks people to leave a phone number and payment with drop-box work, which is the kind of detail that keeps a packet from becoming a mystery.
