Albany DBAs Are Assumed Business Name Filings
Albany County sole proprietors should use the County Clerk's assumed-name form route before opening accounts under a trade name.

Ask the Albany County Clerk for the record by its official name: Assumed Business Name. New York law points to General Business Law Section 130. Banks require a certified copy of the filed DBA before opening a bank account for a new business. The county provides a downloadable form.
Use the County Clerk route for the assumed-name record. Separately check any state tax, professional license, sales-tax, zoning, or local permit requirement that may apply to the actual business activity.
Keep the exact assumed name, filing date, identifying number, and certified copy together. If a bank, landlord, or licensing office asks about the filing, use the name and number shown on the County Clerk record.
